Becher beckons for Mad Max
Mad Max will have his first run for Neil Mulholland in the Betfred Becher Chase at Aintree on December 3.
Formerly with Nicky Henderson, the nine-year-old has shown some top-class form in the past, winning a Grade Two novice chase at Aintree and finishing third in the Victor Chandler Chase last season.
But, at his ownerās behest, he is now set for a huge step up in trip, with the John Smithās Grand National the long-term aim.
āHeāll just go straight for the Becher Chase as weāve had to do a couple of things with his wind, which has been well documented,ā said Mulholland.
āWeād rather have him right on the day than run him just for the sake of a prep race.
āHeās in good form. I donāt know what heās been like at home in the past but heās very enthusiastic and heās settled in very well and seems well in himself.
āThe owners want to go for the National.
āWe know he has got loads of ability ā itās whether he can stay that far.
āI hope itās a good decision. Weāll know in December.ā
