Dutrow banned in New York
Leading American trainer Rick Dutrow has had his licence in New York revoked for 10 years.
Dutrow has been banned for violating various racing rules in nine states and 15 different tracks, according to www.bloodhorse.com.
In addition to a US 50,000 fine, he is also barred from being on the grounds of any racecourse in New York for the next 10 years.
John Sabini, chairman for New York State Racing and Wagering Board, said: “Let this be a lesson to other people in the business.”
Dutrow’s lawyer, Michael Koenig, said his client would launch an appeal.
He said: “We look forward to challenging this in the courts, which will not have the biases or conflicts of interests that infected the Racing and Wagering Board in this case.
“This decision is vindictive, heavy-handed and, most importantly, contrary to the facts, contrary to the evidence, and contrary to any notion of fundamental fairness or due process.”
