Dance set for winter break

Dance And Dance has been signed off for the year following his disappointing run in America at the weekend.

Ed Vaughan’s tough five-year-old has been beset by misfortune this term, but there were no hard-luck stories in Keeneland on Saturday when he faded tamely in the Shadwell Turf Mile.

Vaughan was inclined to attribute the effects of a long season for his demise and will now preserve Dance And Dance with the intention of running him at the Dubai Carnival next year.

“He travelled well during the race, but maybe just ran a bit flat,” accepted the Newmarket handler.

“We left him over there since his run at Woodbine in Canada so maybe the bounce factor had something to do with it.

“He was just coming into his coat a little bit in Canada. He’s been on the go since the Spring Mile at Doncaster (in April) so he’s had a long old season. We’ll rest him for the rest of the season and then we could go to Dubai.

“After that, I’d say the first starting point for him in England could be something like the Diomed at Epsom. He’s won before at the track so we know he can handle it.”
