Options open for Bunting
Godolphin’s star filly Blue Bunting could yet run again this season following her disappointing display in Saturday’s Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster.
The three-year-old was chasing a Classic treble on Town Moor following victories in the 1000 Guineas and the Irish Oaks, but trailed home a disappointing sixth.
Connections suggested in the immediate aftermath that her victory in the Yorkshire Oaks last month may have taken its toll, but the filly could yet be freshened up and bid to return to winning ways before the year is out.
“She seems to have come out of the race fine and we’ll just see how she is over the next few weeks,” said Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford.
“She isn’t necessarily finished for the year. We’ll monitor her progress and make a decision from there.
“There are options for her. There is the race formerly known as the Pride Stakes (Qipco British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes) at Ascot on Champions Day (October 15) and there are also overseas targets.
“We’ll just have to see how she is and nothing is set in stone.”
Crisford also had news of Saturday’s impressive Goodwood winner French Navy, adding: “We were very happy with him and we’ll see how he comes out of the race. The Prix Dollar at Longchamp is a possibility for him, but there are no firm plans.”
