Curragh: Collina takes flight in Phoenix

La Collina collared Power close home to land a 33-1 surprise success in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

Declan McDonogh brought Kevin Prendergast’s filly with a devastating turn of foot to storm past Aidan O’Brien’s runner in the last 50 yards.

Tough As Nails was third, and Lilbourne Lad was fourth.

David Brown’s strongly-fancied Frederick Engels lost all chance when badly hampered by Parish Hall as he tried to make his bid about a furlong out.

Reply was soon in front for the O'Brien team, with Lilbourne Lad and Power in close attendance, and Parish Hall showing good early speed.

Power looked like taking his 100% record to four when he went into the lead, but La Collina managed to find an extra gear and grab the Group One spoils by a neck.
