Ryan Moore has undergone successful surgery on a broken humerus and a broken thumb, according to his mother, Jayne.

Moore was brought down in a three-horse pile-up at Goodwood on Saturday, with the injuries having put paid to his chances of being crowned champion jockey for a fourth time.

After much consultation, Moore required two operations in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, on Tuesday evening.

“I haven’t actually spoken to him, I’ve spoken to his partner, Michelle, who has been with him all night,” said Mrs Moore.

“He came out of surgery at around midnight and all went according to plan – it went extremely well, so the surgeons say.

“That’s all I know for now, but at least there were no hiccups.”
