Famous Name scoops Meld glory

Famous Name won back-to-back renewals of the Jockey Club of Turkey Meld Stakes at Leopardstown this evening.

The redoubtable entire, trained by Dermot Weld, has an exemplary record at the Dublin circuit, where he has now been victorious nine times from 12 starts.

And this was a typically cool display from the Khalid Abdullah-owned six-year-old, who had four and a half lengths in reserve of Dunboyne Express at the line.

Jan Vermeer, Aidan O’Brien’s Group One-winning juvenile, attempted to make all of the running, and still held an advantage deep along the straight.

But Famous Name (4-9 favourite) had every base covered, and galloped readily clear in the trusty hands of Pat Smullen.
