Swedish ban rules Ahern out of Goodwood
Eddie Ahern will miss the whole of Glorious Goodwood after being hit with an additional 14-day ban for an incident that happened in Sweden on May 31.
Ahern was originally given a seven-day suspension by the local stewards for an offence on the Wido Neuroth-trained Sir Lando in the Group Three Stockholms Stora Pris at Taby.
He was judged to have moved across his rivals in the closing stages of the race when finishing second, a manoeuvre that resulted in two horses coming down and jockey Frederik Johansson suffering a shoulder injury.
However, the Swedish Racing Authority appealed the verdict on the basis that the punishment was not sufficiently severe, considering Ahernâs riding to be reckless.
This view was upheld and Ahern was handed an additional 14-day suspension, which means he will be banned from July 20 to August 2 inclusive.
âItâs a shame. Thereâs nothing I can about it,â Ahern said.
âI wonât be going back there again and Iâd advise other jockeys not to go there either.â
