Tom Queally hopes to be back in the saddle for the first day of Newmarket’s July meeting after being forced to give up his rides at Lingfield this afternoon.

Queally is suffering from a bruised rib he injured when the saddle slipped on Vita Nova in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock on Saturday.

Henry Cecil’s jockey has ridden since the incident but on medical advice is giving the injury 24 hours to calm down.

His agent Tony Elves said: “When his saddle slipped in the Lancashire Oaks on Saturday he bruised his rib.

“The doctor has told him just to give it 24 hours to fully heal, but he’ll be back tomorrow – it’s nothing serious.

“He just wasn’t breathing quite right and it’s badly bruised at the minute.”
