Ces on Petara radar
A tilt at the Cesarewitch is on the agenda for Petara Bay following his excellent effort in Saturday‘s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.
The Robert Mills-trained six-year-old had a big weight on his back in the Pitmen’s Derby and was far from ideally drawn in stall 21.
But he finished off his race well and assistant trainer Richard Ryan is looking forward to running him in other big staying handicaps, although he admits the gelding is likely to find it difficult to win off his present rating.
“We were delighted with him. It was a good run from where he was with 9st 6lb on his back,” said Ryan.
“He stayed well and handled the ground. As he‘s got a bit older I think he benefits from that slightly easier surface.
“We‘ll aim him at the Cesarewitch at Newmarket, but we know it‘s going to be difficult for him.
“He went up another pound for his run on Saturday to 103 and last year Aaim To Prosper won the Cesarewitch off 87.
“We could probably do with five or 6lb less really, but he keeps running well.
“The plan is to run him in a handicap at Glorious Goodwood next and then go for the Cesarewitch.”
