Eclipse poser for Canford camp
The Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on July 2 has emerged a possible destination for Canford Cliffs.
Richard Hannon’s stable star got the better of Goldikova in a fantastic tussle for the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last week.
It had been taken as a given the four-year-old would remain at a mile and head for a second victory in the Qipco Sussex Stakes, but a possible clash with So You Think and Workforce over 10 furlongs has not been ruled out.
If he was to stay at a mile in the Sussex he is likely to come up against Sir Henry Cecil’s unbeaten Frankel.
“Canford Cliffs came out of the Queen Anne fine and we are looking at either the Qipco Sussex Stakes or possibly the Coral-Eclipse for him next,” said Richard Hannon jnr, the trainer’s son and assistant.
“We will discuss it with the owners as it’s a question of one race or the other.
“I would be confident taking on Frankel at Goodwood.
“It will be a good race, and hopefully we will win.”
