Mulrennan set for surgery

Paul Mulrennan is set to undergo surgery later today after breaking his leg in a nasty incident at Musselburgh on Friday.

The rider sustained the injury after his mount, Sound Advice, dived through the running rail shortly after winning the Balfour Beatty Engineering Services Handicap.

Mulrennan was taken to Edinburgh Hospital and he is still there awaiting his operation.

His agent Richard Hale said: “He’s got a compound fracture below the knee which means he has broken both bones in his leg.

“The plan was for the doctors to operate later today and I think they are going to plate the leg.

“He’s still in Edinburgh but hopefully he will be allowed home soon after surgery.

“It’s hard to say how long he will be out. You would imagine it will be a lengthy period but I’m really not sure how long.”
