Clowance retired to the paddocks

Roger Charlton’s fine mare Clowance has been confirmed as in foal after a scan and has subsequently been retired as a result.

The six-year-old put up arguably a career-best effort in Friday’s Coronation Cup at Epsom, going down by just three lengths to St Nicholas Abbey and Midday in third.

A daughter of Montjeu, she is in foal to Oasis Dream.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Charlton said: “Clowance’s scan confirmed that she remains in foal and therefore she has run her last race, happy paddock life next.”

Due to her liking for soft ground she was restricted to just 10 career starts, winning three and also finishing runner-up in the 2009 Irish St Leger to Alandi.
