Coronation call-up for Clowance
Roger Charlton is keen to let the in-foal Clowance take her chance in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday.
The six-year-old daughter of Montjeu, who is expecting a foal by Oasis Dream, has only run nine times due to her preference for soft underfoot conditions.
Charlton admits his charge is again unlikely to get her ground this week, but is still hopeful she may be pick up some place prize-money.
âClowance is entered at Epsom on Friday in the Coronation Stakes where it looks like having only five runners,â the Beckhampton-based trainer told his website, www.rogercharlton.com.
âTime is running out for her and I am planning on running as there must be a good chance of at least getting placed in another Group One, and Epsom tend to do an excellent job of watering for the Derby meeting.
âAs usual, there is a forecast of some rain but sadly not enough to produce the soft ground that she so relishes.
âI took her and her little brother Keys to Kempton to work over a mile on Friday, which all seemed to go according to plan, and she is looking a million dollars and raring to go.
âShe has now won three of her nine starts and ÂŁ139,000, which include a Listed race, a Group Three and being placed in three Group Ones but she rarely gets the going that she needs.â
