Afro to mount Canadian raid

Kinky Afro is set for a trip to Canada in the autumn following her third-placed finish in a Group Three race at the Curragh on Sunday.

Trainer Stan Moore is targeting the four-year-old filly at the EP Taylor Stakes at Woodbine, Toronto, in October after she was denied a run in the 10-furlong contest last year.

“She ran superbly in Ireland and is a really tough filly. She’s run atrociously three times at Newmarket so she won’t be going there again,” said the handler.

“She was third in a Group Two in Turkey last back-end, but a race we’ll try and angle her at this year is the EP Taylor in Canada.

“We were going to that last year, but because she ran in Turkey they wouldn’t let her into the country because of some fly or insect she might have picked up.

“She’s actually a very hard filly to place so that would be her main aim towards the end of the season.

“There’s a fillies’ Listed race (Pipalong Stakes) at Pontefract, so that will probably be her next target.”
