O'Brien in Abbey habit for Coronation

The rejuvenated St Nicholas Abbey will be seen next in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday week.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien still has six possibles for the mile-and-a-half Group One, but 2009 champion juvenile St Nicholas Abbey has emerged as his number one hope.

Touted at one stage as the next wonder horse, he was out for the rest of the campaign following his sixth in last year’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

However, a lacklustre reappearance at the Curragh was put well behind him when he won the Ormonde Stakes at Chester by nine lengths.

“The plan with St Nicholas Abbey is to go there (Coronation Cup). Cape Blanco is also in but is just a possible I think at the moment,” said O’Brien.

While hopes are high St Nicholas Abbey can finally produce on the track what his sparkling homework suggested he might, stablemate So You Think has jumped straight to the top of the Ballydoyle tree.

After his effortless success in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot is his next assignment.

“With So You Think the plan is to go to the Prince of Wales’s. He looks very special and is an incredible athlete – he just does everything so incredibly easily it’s hard to believe,” added O’Brien.

“He’s incredibly exciting and something like him you don’t see very often.

“There’s a chance that we’ve never seen anything like this horse before so we’re just so grateful and privileged to have him.”
