First Lieutenant festival plans in limbo

Mouse Morris has yet to finalise Cheltenham plans for his Grade One-winning novice First Lieutenant.

The six-year-old proved too strong for the highly-regarded pair of Zaidpour and Hidden Cyclone in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Although Zaidpour has been beaten again since then, the subsequent success of Hidden Cyclone gives the form a solid look.

“His form has certainly stood up well and he’s in good form,” said Morris.

“I haven’t quite made up my mind which race we go for with him yet, but we’ll decide shortly.

“I would say it will be the two-mile-five (furlong) race (Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle) if the ground is good, but we’ll just have to keep an eye on the weather.”
