Sweeney Tunes wins at Navan
Sweeney Tunes (14-1) capitalised on a last-flight blunder by the evens favourite Dantes King to take the Irish Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle at Navan.
Davy Russell galvanised his mount after the obstacles to pull away from Gordon Elliottâs charge and win by three-quarters of a length.
A stewardsâ inquiry was called but Shane Donohoeâs horse was eventually allowed to keep the race.
Ealier, Voler La Vedette was given a confident ride by Andrew Lynch to run out an impressive winner of the Ladbrokes.com Boyne Hurdle.
Lynch brought Colm Murphyâs mare through to challenge Stonemaster for the lead coming to the final flight and she swept to the head of affairs with the minimum of fuss.
The 9-4 favourite just had to be pointed in the right direction to beat Rigour Back Bob by two lengths with Oscar Dan Dan pipping Stonemaster for third place.
Lynch said: âThatâs only my third ride for Colm and Voler La Vedette travelled really well over todayâs two-mile-five-furlong trip.
âTwo miles is probably a bit too sharp for her and she was finding it easier to travel today. I was always confident she would pick up when I needed to ask her.â
Murphyâs father Pat Murphy added: âVoler La Vedette is not going to Cheltenham and weâll concentrate on Fairyhouse and Punchestown instead.â
