Ted Walsh has revealed his son Ruby is nearing a return to action as he continues to recuperate from a double fracture of his right leg.

Walsh suffered the injury when coming to grief on Corrick Bridge at Down Royal on November 6 – just over an hour after partnering Kauto Star to victory in the JNwine.com Champion Chase.

Walsh senior told Channel 4 Racing: “He’s in good shape. He gets the cage off his leg on Thursday and then a couple of weeks later, if everything is OK, he’ll be back racing.

“He’s kept himself very fit. He’s had a holiday, he has his own place, there’s life after riding and he has to worry about that too.

“Worse things happen in the world and what he has is just a minor problem compared to some people.”
