Mulholland: Chase in perfect shape

Neil Mulholland plans to give Midnight Chase a racecourse gallop as part of his preparation for the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The Devon trainer reports everything to be going smoothly since Midnight Chase completed a hat-trick of victories at Cheltenham this term in December.

“Midnight Chase is perfect. He’s in super form and fingers crossed he remains that way,” said Mulholland.

“He’s at that stage where he’s just simmering away. He’s doing a nice bit, but we’re never taking the edge off him.

“He’ll have a racecourse gallop about 10 days before the race to have a good blow-out and then he’ll be spot on.

“There’s no point having him boiling at the moment five weeks before the race.

“He’s going out there simmering away but he’s not boiling yet. He’s 110%, mentally and physically.”

Midnight Chase is 20-1 with the sponsors for the blue riband event on March 18.
