Weather hits big Leopardstown meeting
This afternoon’s meeting at Leopardstown, featuring the Hennessy Gold Cup, has been cancelled due to waterlogging.
Heavy rain on Friday night and through Saturday had left today’s card hanging on a 7.30am inspection, and more rain overnight left officials with little option.
Racecourse manager Tom Burke said: “We had another 10 millimetres of rain overnight, and in total we have had 17 millimetres since 3pm yesterday, which is more than we could cope with.
“Hopefully we will have a decision on rescheduling the meeting today.”
As well as the Hennessy, this afternoon’s fixture was also due to feature three other Grade One events, including Mikael D’Haguenet in the Dr PJ Moriarty Chase and Zaidpour in the Deloitte Hurdle.
