Rain threat to Plumpton

This afternoon’s meeting at Plumpton is under threat after heavy rain.

With the going already described as heavy, officials will inspect at 8.30am.

Clerk of the course Mark Cornford said: "I wasn't expecting this, the forecast did say for possible showers overnight with maybe six to eight millimetres of rain, but it was raining when I got here and after I had walked the course at 6.45 we had already had seven millimetres.

“It is still raining now, although it is due to fizzle out during the day and even be dry this afternoon.

“We will have a look with the stewards when we get daylight, it would be good to get through the 9am stage as that is when it is meant to peak and slowly die away.”
