Date switch at Newmarket

Newmarket have switched their fixture scheduled for Friday October 7 to Saturday October 1.

The move has been welcomed by the industry as it enables those in the bloodstock world more time to spend at the October Yearling Sale at Tattersalls as well as attend Future Champions’ Day on Saturday, October 8.

By moving dates it also means the £500,000 (€600,000) Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy and the £300,000 (€360,000) Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies’ Trophy can be staged at the weekend prior to the sale.

It also means that the full series of Tattersalls Millions races can be run this year in the same position as in 2010, which was the stated preference of Tattersalls and the bloodstock community.

Michael Prosser, director of racing and clerk of the course for Newmarket, said: “We’re very pleased to have worked with the BHA and Tattersalls to deliver a 2011 race programme that benefits the British bloodstock community.”
