Sandown's Saturday fixture set for 7.30am inspection
Sandown's Saturday fixture will have to pass a 7.30am inspection if it is to go ahead.
Although the Esher venue is currently raceable, substantial rainfall is forecast overnight and clerk of the course Andrew Cooper is keeping his fingers crossed they get the bottom end of the estimated amount.
"We've got a forecast that tells us that we could be in the realms of 12 to 18 millimetres through the night in various bands," said Cooper.
"We've been dry here today since 10am and it is due to stay that way until around 5pm, but then the next band of rain is due to come our way.
"It's quite soft, wet ground, but you would have raced today. It's just down to what we get overnight.
"We think it's sensible to look in the morning and it's always difficult to gauge what the threshold point will be in terms of rainfall.
"Sometimes you can be surprised what five millimetres does and other times you can take 10 millimetres very well, but certainly the higher end of the forecast would be of concern. We'll just have to see."
