Frost puts stop to Ayr meeting

Ayr’s meeting tomorrow has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Hopes had risen during the thaw on Thursday and Friday, but sub-zero temperatures on Saturday night put the final nail in the coffin.

Clerk of the course Emma Marley said: “Last night’s frost finished us, I’m afraid.

“We are minus 1C at the moment and the Met Office say we are not going to get any warmer.

“It is due to get down to minus 5C tonight and be very cold tomorrow.

“We are not raceable at the moment and given the forecast we have no chance.

“We were hopeful yesterday but last night was very cold.

“Hopefully it warms up before our next meetings on January 2-3.”
