Snow forces Fairyhouse cancellation

Tomorrow's big meeting at Fairyhouse has been cancelled with three inches of snow covering the track.

The fixture had been due to feature the debut over fences in Ireland of the exciting Mikael D'Haguenet, who was one of nine scheduled starters for the Bar One Drinmore Novice Chase.

Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone explained: "They had a look at midday and there was three inches of snow on the track.

"Freezing temperatures are forecast again for overnight."

Today's fixture at Fairyhouse had been cancelled earlier in the week, and a combined eight-race card will now be run on Thursday.

Peter Roe, acting manager of Fairyhouse, said: "The weather has beaten us, it's as simple at that. We are all devastated to have to cancel this meeting.

"I would like to extend my thanks to our sponsors, Meath Tourism, hospitality guests, suppliers, members and general racegoers all of whom have been extremely supportive and understanding of our situation.

"We are now looking at running an eight-race card on Thursday. With seven of the eight races being Graded this will be a mouth-watering day's racing. The first race will be 11.50am. Admission will be free."
