Second check for Fakenham

This afternoon’s meeting at Fakenham will have to pass a second morning inspection at 9am if it is to go ahead as scheduled.

Clerk of the course David Hunter announced an initial inspection for 7am due to the forecast of sub-zero overnight temperatures and arrived on track to find they had plummeted to below minus five.

Although he is currently unable to give the fixture the green light with temperatures still below freezing, Hunter is hopeful conditions will warm up sufficiently during the next couple of hours.

“We’re having another look at 9am and it is just as well I did call an inspection as we had minus 5.1 last night,” said Hunter.

“It’s now almost minus three and while at the moment we wouldn’t be raceable, we’re still confident we’ll be able to go ahead.

“We’ll have to see how things progress over the next couple of hours.”
