Hannon recovering well after heart op

Richard Hannon will be watching Paco Boy's bid for glory in the Breeders' Cup Mile tomorrow from a hospital bed after undergoing a heart bypass operation at Southampton Hospital earlier this week.

Hannon, crowned champion trainer for a third time after a fantastic season, is reportedly recovering well.

"Everything went well and having been restricted to sitting in a chair for the last couple of days, he hopes to be able to leave intensive care today and move into his own room," said Hannon's wife, Jo.

"Sylvester (Kirk), our son-in-law, is taking a laptop in today so that he can watch the Breeders' Cup races on television, but Richard has quickly got his sense of humour back because he told me that if he is going to die of anything in there it will be boredom!

"Obviously, he has to take things easy, and it will be early next week before we can consider bringing him home but, more immediately, we must make sure that he does not start jumping up and down if Paco Boy wins the Mile," she told www.richardhannonracing.tv.
