Simcock looks ahead with defeated Dream

David Simcock reports Dream Ahead to be none the worse for his disappointing effort in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes yesterday.

The Newmarket trainer’s star colt relinquished his unbeaten record in tame fashion when trailing in fifth of six behind Frankel at Headquarters.

Dream Ahead had previously proved himself to be a top-notch juvenile with convincing wins in two Group Ones, the Prix Morny and the Middle Park Stakes.

The latter victory, by nine lengths, came two weeks earlier and probably took more out of him than was thought.

“In hindsight he was trying to do what no other horse had done – to win the Morny, Middle Park and the Dewhurst,” said Simcock.

“The Dewhurst came two weeks after the Middle Park. It wasn’t his running, it was plain to see.”

Dream Ahead will now be put away for the winner and be prepared for the 2000 Guineas.

“It will be the normal scenario,” Simcock added.
