Ahern dealt injury blow

Eddie Ahern plans to return to the fray by mid-October after fracturing his right collarbone at Bath on Monday.

Eddie Ahern plans to return to the fray by mid-October after fracturing his right collarbone at Bath on Monday.

The jockey took a tumble when his mount, Dolphina, stumbled after the line when winning the EBF/Park & Garden Centres Friends & Family Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Officials at Bath were later forced to abandon their final two races on card due to an increasing band of fog.

The injury comes at a bad time for Ahern, who was poised to ride Approve in the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

His agent Terry Norman said: “I don’t think it’s a bad break – I believe he’s cracked the top of his collarbone – but he’ll hopefully be back sooner rather than later.

“I think he intends to be back by the time of the Cesarewitch at Newmarket (October 16).”
