David Marnane believes Fred Archer is the type of late-maturing horse who could develop into a good three-year-old.

The Iffraaj colt, owned by Sheikh Mohammed, made a winning debut in a maiden at Leopardstown in August but trailed in last on his only subsequent start in a Group Three contest at the Curragh later that month.

“We are just chipping away with him and we might run him one more time before the end of the season,” said the County Tipperary trainer.

“Everything is fine with him. He’s just developing away and is still a bit weak and immature, so we are giving him a chance.

“He’s a nice type of horse and will make a lovely three-year-old.”
