Vanguard Dream takes Leicester prize
Richard Hannon's Vanguard Dream had no problems in taking his unbeaten record to two in the EBF Kegworth Novice Stakes at Leicester today.
A debut scorer at Goodwood just over a week ago, connections had been slightly unsure as to whether the diminutive Oasis Dream juvenile had much scope for improvement but this unfussy success could not be crabbed.
Jimmy Fortune simply pushed the 4-9 favourite of four two lengths clear of Try The Chance.
Easier conditions gave a belated chance for Scooby Dee in the Golden Hand Selling Stakes.
The Richard Whitaker camp had been a little frustrated with the filly, who had not made the frame in 11 previous starts over a variety of distances.
Sent off at 25-1, she came from last to first under Daragh O'Donohoe to nab Katmai River by a neck.
Simon Whitaker, trainer's son and assistant, said: "We'd been at a bit of a loss what to do with her, but to be fair that is the first time she has had a bit of cut in the ground.
"I said to Daragh if they went quick, just to sit on her."
