Jarvis in Poll position for Longchamp

Opinion Poll, the vanquished Doncaster Cup favourite, could drop back in trip for the Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

Michael Jarvis felt the promising colt failed to see out the two-mile-two-furlong marathon on Town Moor, in which he finished fourth behind Samuel.

Opinion Poll, who had previously defeated that same rival in the Lonsdale Cup at York, is now poised to step down to just under two miles in France on October 24.

“He’s done really well since Doncaster and if he runs again this season it will be over a shorter trip,” said Newmarket-based Jarvis.

“At the moment we’ve got our mind on the Prix Royal-Oak, which could be ideal for him.

“I was very happy with Doncaster. It wasn’t so much the ground found him out, rather than the trip – I didn’t think he stayed.

“Nonetheless it was a fine run – he came there with every chance – and there is much to look forward to.”
