Jeremy Noseda has ruled his smart two-year-old prospect Peter Martins out for the rest of the season.

The son of Johannesburg bolted up by five lengths on his only start to date in a maiden at Newmarket in July and was originally pencilled in for this weekend’s Neptune Investment Management Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

However, Peter Martins missed that engagement and will now be trained for next year’s 2000 Guineas, for which he is as low as 14-1.

“Unfortunately he has met with a slight setback which means that it would be a rush for us to prepare him for a significant autumn target,” the trainer told www.jeremynoseda.com.

“Therefore we have decided to finish him for the season and look towards a prep in the spring for the 2000 Guineas.

“I have always had a great belief in the horse and am thrilled that he has had a run at two. I think he will improve substantially physically from two to three.”
