This evening’s fixture at Goodwood has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Course officials had little option but to call off the six-race Flat card following 35 millimetres of overnight rain.

Clerk of the course Seamus Buckley said: “We’ve had up to two inches of rain in the last 24 hours, and no ground could take that.

“We held an inspection at around 6.15am and the track was unraceable in places.

“There’s also more rain forecast, so it’s bitterly disappointing.”

Goodwood are also due to race on Saturday, featuring the totesport.com Celebration Mile, and on Sunday.

The weekend forecast is, however, giving Buckley cause for quiet optimism.

He added: “Things are due to settle down, and we will also be racing on fresh ground on Saturday.

“We are due to get a dry 24 hours so we are quite hopeful for the weekend.”
