Martin eyeing Ebor challenge

Salute Him could bid to be the second successive Irish-trained winner of the totesport Ebor at York on August 18.

Salute Him could bid to be the second successive Irish-trained winner of the totesport Ebor at York on August 18.

Trainer Tony Martin is looking to emulate his compatriot Willie Mullins, who sent out Sesenta to land the prestigious mile-and-six-furlong handicap on the Knavesmire last year.

Salute Him was fourth to Rainbow Peak in the Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot on his last visit to these shores and also finished fifth behind Pop Rock at Galway last week.

“We’ll see how it pans out in a week or so and we’ll make our mind up,” said the County Meath handler.

“We just want a rub of the green and we’ll see how we go from there.”

Salute Him, who has been allotted 9st 5lb, can be backed at odds varying from 14-1 to 25-1 to win the Ebor.
