Globe-trotting Dettori off to a flyer

Frankie Dettori readied himself for a weekend of Group One engagements as Al Aasifh banished his Royal Ascot disappointment in the Rose Bowl Stakes - Sponsored By Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd at Newbury today.

The Italian will jet to Germany and Ireland over the next couple of days to ride Campanologist and Hibaayeb for Godolphin and warmed up for his trip with success aboard the 2-1 favourite.

Saeed bin Suroor's juvenile failed to build on an impressive Haydock success when finishing down the field in the Norfolk, but returned to six furlongs the colt strode out well and pegged back Cape To Rio to score by half a length.

Bin Suroor said: "We ran him back too quickly at Ascot where the ground was too fast and they went off quick.

"The ground was right today and six furlongs suits him well.

"We will now look for a Group race for him as I hope he will be a nice horse for the future."

Dettori then denied Godolphin a double as he scored aboard Mark Johnston's 11-4 favourite Emerging Artist in the Shadwell "Standing For Success" Handicap, relegating Bin Suroor's Con Artist to second.

Brian Meehan celebrated his 43rd birthday in style as Waiter's Dream (7-2) stamped his mark on the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing EBF Maiden Stakes.

The Oasis Dream colt had progressed with his previous two outings and came good at the third time of asking as he made all under Kieren Fallon to cross the line with four lengths in hand.

Meehan said: "I am very pleased with that and he is certainly a horse with a future.

"He is a nice colt and we will step him up in grade now."

Richard Hannon sent out his 55th juvenile winner of the year as Celebrity improved on her racecourse debut to scoop the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

The 9-2 chance shaped with promise at the track last month and came forward for that effort to strike by two and a half lengths under champion jockey Ryan Moore.

Hannon said: "A bit of cut in the ground helped and she has really improved from her first run to her second.

"She is settling down well and I think there is more to come."

Blessed Place (12-1) defied his advancing years in the TKP Surfacing Handicap to blaze a trail up the far rail under John Fahy and provide trainer Dominic ffrench Davis with his second winner inside 24 hours.

Davis commented: "He doesn't like to be crowded so with being drawn one we decided to go up the fair rail.

"They have left him alone and it has worked out well."

John Dunlop was also on the mark as his Madhaaq (7-1) appreciated the step up to a mile and a quarter to run out a four-and-a-half-length winner of the Smith & Williamson Fillies' Handicap.
