Genki will bid for back-to-back triumphs in the Stewards’ Cup later this month after regaining the winning thread at Haydock yesterday.

Roger Charlton’s six-year-old was one of the leading fancies for the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot last month and ran a respectable race to finish sixth behind the classy Laddies Poker Two from an unfavourable draw.

His weekend win in conditions company delighted connections and a return to Glorious Goodwood is now firmly on the agenda.

“He’s had a pick of grass this morning and I’m very happy with him,” said Charlton.

“The Stewards’ Cup is the next step and I was delighted to see him win as he was unlucky with the draw at Ascot.

“We just have to hope he gets lucky with the draw at Goodwood now.”
