Makin ponders Salisbury bid

Kuanyao could bid for a fifth success on the bounce at Salisbury on Saturday week after extending his winning spree in the “Colonel” Has Joined Premier Racing Services Handicap at Yarmouth.

Kuanyao could bid for a fifth success on the bounce at Salisbury on Saturday week after extending his winning spree in the “Colonel” Has Joined Premier Racing Services Handicap at Yarmouth.

Peter Makin’s four-year-old notched a hat-trick on the all-weather last winter and completed a four-timer under Seb Sanders returned to turf.

He climbed through the ratings last term but the handicapper is evidently still playing catch up as the 7-2 chance struck for home a fair way out and scored by three-quarters of a length.

Makin said: “We put him away last backend but he wasn’t right during the spring and has just come right recently.

“I was delighted he was able to win and we were quite hopeful – it is a long way to send one horse from Wiltshire to Yarmouth if you aren’t a little confident.

“We ended up running on the all-weather as we ran out of options on turf but I will keep him on grass now and big, galloping tracks suit him.

“He is in a race at Salisbury on Saturday week but we will have to see what the handicapper does as he could end too highly-rated to get in.”

The Paddyman improved on his Newmarket debut to storm home by eight lengths in the EBF/Premier Racing Free £100 Bet In 4.40 Maiden Stakes.

William Haggas’ Giant’s Causeway colt was a respectable second in a decent race at Headquarters on his debut but looked a different proposition on this occasion under Philip Robinson.

The 1-2 favourite started to assert passing the two-furlong pole and readily strode out to easily brush aside Sir Michael Stoute’s Albaasil.

Luca Cumani was another Newmarket trainer on the scoreboard as his Aktia ground out a one-length victory as the 6-5 favourite in the Premier Racing Services In Beccles Handicap.

Racegoers at the seaside would have needed divine inspiration to select newcomer My Lord as he caused a 16-1 upset in the Premier Racing Free £100 Bet In 4.40 Selling Stakes.

The Somerset raider drifted to his left through the final furlong but had plenty in hand and despite giving away ground, he was still a length superior of Lighthouse Keeper.

Greek Secret was another to have made a sizeable journey and the 9-2 chance made the trip from South Yorkshire worthwhile with success in the Open An Account Today With Premier Racing Handicap.

Eye Of Eternity was turned out quickly after her Lingfield win last week but the 85-40 favourite was denied by Seattle Speight (8-1) in the Premier Racing Services In Halesworth Handicap.
