Trainer Michael Dods landed his first Group-race success as Barney McGrew scored under an enterprising ride in the totesport.com Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle.

Phillip Makin had the 16-1 chance smartly away and he made all the running, staying on strongly in the closing stages to hold the challenge of 15-8 favourite Himalya by two and a half lengths.
