King George next for Workforce

Brilliant Investec Derby winner Workforce will head to the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on July 24 rather than next weekend’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

The Michael Stoute-trained colt defied his inexperience at Epsom to power to glory in the premier Classic in a record time for the race, beating At First Sight by seven lengths.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said: “Workforce will go straight to the King George.

“The thinking is he had a tough enough race in the Derby and the Irish Derby just comes a little bit too soon.

“He’s a big, scopey horse and we want to give him that bit more time for the King George. He’s in good form, the Arc will be the objective after that and we’ll have to see how he gets there.”
