Epsom clerk predicts perfect conditions

Epsom clerk of the course Andrew Cooper anticipates perfect racing conditions for the Classic weekend.

The ground is currently good following two millimetres of rainfall on Thursday morning.

"I'm very happy with the state of the ground as it is," said Cooper.

"We've had two millimetres of rain and it's in lovely condition.

"It's been a difficult spring, but it's just about getting to where we want it.

"Saturday is the next chance we have of getting rain, and that doesn't look as wet as we originally thought.

"The aim is to ensure that at 4pm on the Saturday for the Investec Derby that we don't have ground any quicker than good to firm - that's the ultimate and we work back from that."
