Prompter set for Derby Dee day

Prompter puts his Investec Derby place on the line in the Addleshaw Goddard Dee Stakes at Chester tomorrow.

The son of 2005 Derby hero Motivator was narrowly beaten on his reappearance at Epsom last month and connections believe that outing has done him the world of good.

“He looks great. I saw him this morning and that race has just taken the fizz out of him,” said Harry Herbert, racing manager to his owners, the Royal Ascot Racing Club.

“He was free in the first part of his race at Epsom in a very small field. He ran very well, but it’s tough to make all in your first run of the year and run a bit free.

“He just got a bit tired in the closing stages, but he’s a horse I think should be running in a race like the Dee Stakes. We need to know a bit more about him as to whether he is a possible Derby runner or if we have to aim our sights a bit lower.

“He comes into the race very well. Michael Bell’s horses are in good form and if they have a bit of rain that will be to his benefit.

“He won his maiden at Chester and that’s one of the reasons we’re going there as he’s acted on the track before. We’re always keen to run back there.

“Hayley (Turner) rides him and she knows him very well. We’ll learn a lot more tomorrow.”
