Melbourne Cup hero put down
Viewed, the 2008 Melbourne Cup winner, has died.
The Bart Cummings-trained entire was put down on Saturday after complications from a twisted bowel.
Cummings said: “It’s bad news. He was a very good horse and what’s really disappointing is we hadn’t seen the best of him.
“He was just coming good – I’ll have to try and find another one as good now.”
The son of Scenic also won last year’s Caulfield Cup, but could finish only seventh in the 2009 Melbourne Cup.
Duncan Ramage, racing manager for Viewed’s owner Dato Tan Chin Nam, added: “We were confident he would do well this season and decided against retiring him to the stud, although there were a number of enquiries from breeders wanting to send mares to him.
“Viewed promised to continue the Scenic line and surely would have been worthwhile to our racing, being Australian with the potential to produce good middle-distance horses.”
