Fallon set for Newbury return

Kieren Fallon is set to ride at Newbury this afternoon after escaping serious injury at the Berkshire track on Friday.

The six-times champion jockey was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital after being kicked in the build-up to the Bridget Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

Fallon was about to take the mount aboard Mick Channon's Ayam Zainah when Alioonagh bolted, causing mayhem in the paddock.

The Matthew Salaman-trained daughter of Giant's Causeway upset several of her rivals and caused Fallon's mount to kick out in alarm and strike the jockey.

The 45-year-old fell to the ground and lay at the side of the parade ring surrounded by black screens while being attended to by medical staff.

Initial fears of a break to his leg proved unfounded as precautionary X-rays came back clear and he left hospital last night.

His agent Dave Pollington said this morning: "He's been for a swim, he's not in any pain and he's on his way to the races.

"It's remarkable really, but he says he's not in any pain, there's just bruising, so hopefully he can kick on.

"I imagine he will have to pass the doctor but he's not expecting a problem."

Among six booked rides for Fallon are Lady Of The Desert in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes and Purple Moon in the John Porter Stakes.

Fallon is also scheduled to partner the unraced Momkinzain for Channon in the racinguk.com Maiden Stakes at 4.15.

A statement on the trainer's website, www.mickchannon.tv, said: "Kieren Fallon is due to take his rides today at Newbury which is great news for the yard."
