Pollenator's Guineas run not set in stone

May Hill Stakes winner Pollenator has wintered well at Richard Hannon’s yard but a definite decision has still to be made whether she will start her campaign in the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas.

The Doncaster race looks extremely hot with the runner-up Hibaayeb going on to win the Fillies’ Mile and the third home Seta very well regarded.

With plenty of stamina in her pedigree, however, connections believe she may end up being an Oaks filly.

“Pollenator is great, she seems in great form and she certainly keeps herself busy,” said Harry Herbert, racing manager to owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.

“We just need to see if she really has the speed for a mile or whether we go further with her.

“Initially the plan is to run in the Guineas first time up – she’s in good shape, we’re very excited about her.

“Our other nice filly with Richard, Plume, is working well and might run in one of the Guineas Trials, possibly the Fred Darling at Newbury.”

Hannon confirmed on his website, www.richardhannonracing.tv, that the two fillies are in good shape.

“Pollenator, who like Plume runs for the Harry Herbert team, has pleased me through the winter, but we won’t be rushing her as the 1000 Guineas will be the first port of call though she is bred for the Oaks, so could even wait for the Musidora Stakes at York,” said Hannon.

“She looked very good in the May Hill at Doncaster last year and we are all quite excited about her and we gave her an Italian Oaks entry this week too.

“The Classics out there are very valuable, and you need to make sure you are in them.”
