Tomorrow’s meeting at Wincanton is the latest to come under threat due to rain and will need to survive a 12pm precautionary inspection today.

The going at the West Country venue is already heavy, waterlogged in places after 21mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: “It’s been unbelievable the last few days and we’ve had 21mm in the past 24 hours and it’s chucking it down now.

“We are waterlogged in places at present and the only silver lining is the fact it is forecast to stop at 11am.

“That is why we’ve called the inspection for noon as it is then supposed to be dry until tomorrow lunch time.”
