Dods quietly confident of big Lincoln run

Michael Dods feels Tiger Reigns is still a few weeks from peak condition as he prepares to line up in the William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster on Saturday.

The four-year-old enjoyed a fantastic 2009 campaign, winning five times and signing off the year with a fine fourth in a competitive handicap at Ayr.

While Dods is happy with his charge’s preparation for the ultra-competitive handicap, he believes Tiger Reigns will be a better horse when the weather picks up.

“It was the plan from the end of last season that we would look at this race and he seems in good form,” said Dods.

“I’m happy with where he is, but I just feel as though the horses coming from the south might just have the edge having had a bit warmer weather.

“Our horse is definitely fit but I do think he’ll be a better horse in three or four weeks’ time after he’s had some sun on his back.

“He won five times last season and went up in the handicap from 68 to 93, but we can’t complain as it was a good year for him.

“He’s a tough horse who enjoys his racing and although he’s a good moving horse, any cut in the ground would certainly help him.

“I’m happy enough with the draw (stall 13). Phillip (Makin) can watch some of the earlier races and see where the speed is coming from.

“There was a lot of winners coming from the middle at Doncaster last year so I didn’t want to be too high and I’m pleased with where we are.”
