Sawyer in the hunt for Aintree

The Sawyer enjoyed a day’s hunting in his build-up for his next race at Aintree in two weeks’ time.

Bob Buckler took his smart handicap chaser to Exmoor for a change of scenery on Thursday following his run in the Byrne Group Plate at the Cheltenham Festival.

“He had a super day, he really loved it,” said the Somerset handler.

“He’ll go to Aintree for either the Topham or the three-mile-one handicap chase and then he might go to Punchestown later on.”

Buckler has yet to decide Double Dizzy’s next outing after he finished eighth to A New Story in the cross-country race at Cheltenham.

Options for the versatile nine-year-old include the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse, the Fox Hunters’ Chase at Aintree and the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown.

“He’s fine after Cheltenham. He might go over to Ireland,” the trainer went on.

“He’s completely tripless. He’s run well over two and a half miles and over three and a half. We don’t know what his trip is.

“He enjoyed the cross-country race. He’s a good jumper so I might send him for the Fox Hunters’ and he also holds an entry in the Bet365 at Sandown later on.”
