Inler heads to Leicester

John Best has nominated a conditions event at Leicester on April 8 as the next stop for stanjames.com 2000 Guineas gamble Inler following his sensational gallop on Tuesday morning.

The Newmarket maiden winner will take in the ladbrokes.com Conditions Stakes ahead of the first Classic of the season, for which he was trimmed to 16-1 from 33s after setting alight Mick Channon’s gallops.

Best oversaw the work before jetting out to Dubai for the World Cup, but is relishing his return to the UK to prepare the Harry Findlay-owned son of Red Ransom for Newmarket on May 1.

He said: “He was no nowhere near fit when he galloped and there is plenty more to come.

“He has not gone beyond six furlongs yet but his pedigree says he will stay a mile, and if he does then he will be pretty special.

“Kingsgate Native was a Group One-winning sprinter for us and Inler has the pace of him, but is a lot more straightforward.”
